How to check if a Romanian company is in the RO e-Factura registry (by CUI)

Short answer: ANAF's free VAT web service returns a field statusRO_e_Factura for each CUI. According to ANAF's documentation it is true if the taxpayer appears in the RO e-Factura Registry at the searched date and false if it does not. You can call the service yourself or run the Clearsource actor on Apify for a list of CUIs, with a watch mode for changes.

What the flag means

ANAF fieldValueMeaning (ANAF documentation v9)Actor field
statusRO_e_Facturatrueappears in the RO e-Factura Registry at the searched datee_invoice_registered: true
statusRO_e_Facturafalsedoes not appear in the registry at the searched datee_invoice_registered: false
CUI not foundin notFoundno data for the CUIfound: false, status fields null

The flag sits in the date_generale block of the answer, next to the competent tax office. The documentation describes only this flag; it does not say here what legal obligation follows from being in or out of the registry. For the rules on who must use RO e-Factura, read ANAF's own e-Factura pages and ask your accountant. We do not interpret them in this guide.

Way 1: call ANAF's web service yourself (free)

  1. Read the ANAF web service documentation (version 9). Its title line lists the RO e-Factura Registry among the registers it checks.
  2. POST a JSON array with numeric cui and data (YYYY-MM-DD) to https://webservicesp.anaf.ro/api/PlatitorTvaRest/v9/tva.
  3. Read found[].date_generale.statusRO_e_Factura.
  4. At most 100 CUIs per request and one request per second.
curl -s -X POST https://webservicesp.anaf.ro/api/PlatitorTvaRest/v9/tva \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '[{"cui": 16054368, "data": "2026-10-10"}]'

The date matters: the flag is as at the searched date. For long lists you still have to build batching, retries, CUI normalisation and storage of the retrieval time.

Way 2: run the Apify actor

  1. Open Romania CUI Status Check on the Apify Store.
  2. Paste your CUIs (with or without RO).
  3. Run it and read e_invoice_registered in each record, or export JSON, CSV or Excel.
{ "mode": "lookup", "cuis": ["RO16054368", "9900000010"] }

Output excerpt (synthetic test code 9900000010)

{ "cui": "9900000010", "found": true, "e_invoice_registered": true,
  "provenance": { "source_url": "https://webservicesp.anaf.ro/api/PlatitorTvaRest/v9/tva",
                  "retrieved_at": "2026-10-05T04:12:03.512Z" } }

Watch mode (mode: "watch") outputs a record only when the e-Factura flag, or VAT, inactive or split-VAT status, has changed since the previous run. Prices, limits and the full output are in the bulk status guide and on the Store page. To check whether a supplier is inactive, see the inactive-taxpayer guide.

Frequently asked questions

Does false mean the company breaks a rule?

No. It only means ANAF's registry did not list the CUI at the searched date. Whether that has consequences depends on facts we do not have.

Is the actor an official ANAF product?

No. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by ANAF, and its output is not official; the ANAF response is authoritative.

Can I query a past date?

Yes, with queryDate in the actor or data in the ANAF request. The answer is as ANAF gives it for that date.
